I use to own a PSP back when it first released in 2005. The amount of fun I've had with it up to the release of the PS Vita created plenty of memories, though one title has stood out for me. Patapon was one of those unique side-scroller titles that rather than use the traditional combat system of a side-scroller , it used a rhythm mechanism. Still to this day, Patapon is an amazing title and perhaps even a hidden gem that many have not experienced yet.
While I don't believe the game itself will be a huge console seller, it will be none the less a great addition to the Vita's library. There are many features that the Vita has over the PSP; the biggest of course is the dual stick. Though of course with the addition of a back touch pad and frontal touch screen, there would be some worries weren't for the fact that the title would be developed by Sony of Japan. Afterall, all three titles have been huge success with gamers.
The gameplay has always been the focus of the game. It's fun and creative, the gameplay is a mixed of rhythm, RPG, strategy, action, and a bunch of other genres. And this was a title on last generation handhelds, there is so much more to be utilize on the PS Vita. The titles has always been focused on buttons, and with the Vita nearly added touch screen, pad, and even gyro scope, this could easily reinvent the Patapon series if done correctly. Can you imagine playing this title and making some mad beats with the touchpad? We can't speculate too much on how the controls would work, seeing that in a sense it's hard to picture added what will be the added features.
Either way, Sony should announce it sometimes this year. There's no doubt that there isn't one already in development for the Vita. For some it will be a great reason to buy a Vita, but personally I just want them to continue pumping out these great titles. It is after all, one of the few gems that releases every so generation.
What do you guys think? Will a Patapon on the PS vita live up to the old titles?
